Job Description and Expectations
Position: Plant Foreman
Hours of Work: Hours: 6:00 am GÇô 2:30 pm (may vary due to production needs); Lunch 12:00 pm GÇô 12:30 pm (may vary due to production needs); Break 9:00 am GÇô 9:15 am (may vary due to production needs) Position Frequently works extended hours and up to 5 hours of overtime weekly can be routine and pre-authorized (as needed).
Overview: Foreman determine the priorities for work to be done, sometimes based on their own initiative and authority, but more often based on needs communicated by sales or management. They must determine whether they have the number of employees possessing the required skills for the job, verify that the needed items are available and direct employees on which tasks are to be completed first. If problems arise, the foreman may alter the schedule to minimize down time or assign workers to another section if necessary.
Job Duties and Expectation: This position is responsible for supervising employees in a manufacturing and assembly environment. The supervisory duties of this position includes but is not limited to the following: resolves employee issues through problem resolution; provides employee coaching and development; balances quality, drives quality issues back to management to ensure that issue is fixed for future builds (design, quality, flow, etc.), productivity, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all areas; and works to continuously improve in all areas.
Determines the priorities for work to be done, in coordination with Plant Manager and according to the production schedule (Flow). Determines whether they have the number of employees possessing the required skills for the job, verify that the needed items are available and direct employees on which tasks are to be completed first. If problems arise, the foreman works in conjunction with the Plant Manager to determine if an alteration of the work schedule in needed to minimize down time or to assign workers to another section if necessary.
Documents actions on employees such as coaching, safety, and disciplinary issues for submission to Human Resources and Management for determinate of action and retention. Tracks absenteeism and timekeeping for staff assigned.
Ensures that staff obey all safety regulations. Responsible for communicating safety procedures to employees or offering safety training to new workers and/or ensuring that they are trained by the appropriate person before working in a particular environment or on a particular machine. Inspects the work environment or equipment to verify that no hazardous conditions exist. Please note, in the event of an accident, the Foreman is likely the one who will prepare the preliminary incident report. Ensures that daily, weekly, monthly, etc. checklists are completed for safety and equipment maintenance for department(s). Ensures that departmental Staff has appropriate attire and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Manages departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provides regular progress reports to Plate Management.
This includes performing quality control checks, ensuring that the order is being filled correctly and timely. Assists in the processing of priority orders to ensure that turnaround time is met. Ensures that weekly inventory lists are completed and submitted to Plant Manager for department, timely.
The Forman will be tasked to update the NP work Flow, in all aspects, assigned as a daily task. This will be the updated work schedule for departmental assigned work. The Forman will be tasked to keep up-to-date (real time) work schedules for department product tracking. The Forman will be responsible for notifying the Sales Department of any possible late orders, before its projected ship date, via email.
Forman performs other duties as assigned by Plant Manager.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
Physical Demand: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
